Let me start off by saying that GEICO commercials, in my eyes, are pretty ingenious and don't receive the credit that they deserve for their creativity. Think about it, I bet that every time a GEICO ad comes on you could probably recite most of it, at least the punchline. The cool thing about GEICO is that they have seemingly created a universe of characters that the viewer becomes border line emotionally invested in, you can't tell me that you haven't felt bad for the cavemen at least once.
GEICO commercials are more like a story, with the gecko being the main character. A tiny, green, Australian(?), talking amphibian that we've all come to recognize as a mini celebrity.
Now onto the ad:
Most people's response is probably the same, "GEICO is running out of ideas for commercials, huh?"
The point of the commercial is not to be pointless (If that makes any sense) the commercial is pretty genius in it's subliminal messaging, through out the ad everything is basically some shade of gray or some other bland color, however there are two colors that stick out, green and blue. The gecko is green and so is the exit sign in the back, this isn't a coincidence, it's by design because whether you realized it or not, you subconsciously noticed it.
Then you have the radio host/Mark Zuckerberg look-a-like holding his blue ball. The ball itself is just a tool, something to stress the fact that he likes the color blue. But it still doesn't make any sense does it? "OK so he likes the color blue and is holding a blue ball, I don't get it." Well let's take a look at what he says about the color blue:
"What color is the car? I bet you look great in a blue car."
and
"Yeah, but is one of them blue? Cause I'd go with the blue one."
Immediately after the host says how great blue cars are what happens?
Boom! In capitally, large, bright blue letters: GEICO. And there you have it, that is why you'd look good in a blue (GEICO insured) car.
